If we try to put ourselves in the shoes of people moving abroad as digital nomads and try to figure out what their problems might be, we would realize that their problems vary. Some of them might need help with moving to another country while others might need help with on-site problems. The DIHUB project represents Algebra’s students working on a cloud solution for helping digital nomads to settle in a new temporary residence.

Digital nomads are facing many challenges while moving to another country. Moreover, once they successfully overcome these challenges, they have to deal with a new set of unknown situations. Namely, after they settle down in their new temporary homes, they have to deal with documentation and arranging many services, but they want also to familiarize themselves with the new environment and the society.

This is what Algebra’s graduate students recognized and transformed into their challenge – they started to develop an application that would be, as they explain, a one-stop-shop for digital nomads. Their team, The Nomads, consists of seven members that are skilled in different fields – software engineering, digital marketing, and data science. Members of the interdisciplinary team, Nina Tudor, Ivan Jakovljević, Marta Krznar, Filip Puljić, Mateja Novaković, Antonio Akrapović, and Andro Žonja are working on the development of the Nomad Rescue application.

According to the team’s plan, the Nomad Rescue application would provide its users with a wide range of services. Users could quickly and efficiently get much reliable information that is crucial to the digital nomads. Firstly, digital nomads need to sort out the paperwork related to relocation – the team plans to create an application that would contain all the necessary information about the administrative details when moving to a particular country. Furthermore, the application would offer accommodation recommendations with a good price-quality ratio, the possibility of finding roommates, and the possibility of transferring the use of accommodation from one user to another.

After settling in the new country, digital nomads need to arrange many services. This is why students also try to enable the possibility of finding transportation and telecommunications services with the help of the Nomad Rescue application. In addition, the application would make it easier for users to find documents that they might need for contracting banking, legal, and insurance services. Also, the plan is to make it easier for users to find available coworking spaces and engage in a virtual tour guide according to their preferences.

Except for digital nomads, the application could be useful to students, retired travelers, and other people who move or travel for a longer period. It would offer a wide set of information and services, thus encompassing the services of several different existing applications. The team emphasized that they aim to develop the social component of the application so that users could communicate with each other and exchange experiences. This is why they call it “the one-stop-shop for digital nomads”.

The development of the Nomad Rescue application is an example of successful collaboration between students, education providers, and businesses which the DIHUB project aims to stimulate. The final result of this and similar collaborations could be the development of new products and services as well as the implementation of cloud-based innovations.
